Over a year ago now I took a leap of faith to set up PJS consulting engineers. Creating a civil engineering consultancy, that regards innovation as much as the service it provides. With high standards I gathered a team of likeminded engineers that are pioneering and share my passion for delivering clever solutions with the client in mind. And now after one of the best British summers we have had in years, I can equally say that it has also been a fantastic first year here at PJS.
The team and I would like to thank all our clients for their support and faith in working with us as a new business, this trust is important to us. It is thanks to the team, Tom, Adam and Liam’s relentless positive attitude and exceptional work ethic that has enabled us to begin building long lasting relationships with our clients Richborough Estates, Peveril, Bovis, Mulberry, Linden and Persimmon Homes, but to name just a few. Thanks to their work and the projects we have completed, our reputation for providing a quality and timely service is growing rapidly.
In our first year we have grown to a team of four, soon to be six, extremely talented and capable engineers. Plus, our new director will be strategic in the growth of the business going forward. With our Nottingham office based in Mansfield, we created our unique company branding and launched our website earlier this year to enable us to share our knowledge and experiences within the industry.

As well as this commercial platform we have also invested heavily in the latest IT Civil and Structural 3d modelling software including Autodesk Civil 3d, Revit, Micro drainage, Trimble Tekla Structural Designer and Tedds. These programs have proved to be invaluable in terms of quality, efficiency and enabling our clients to visualise developments and constraints. With new team members and growth strategy we will continue to invest in technology as part of our commitment to delivering value.
Our first year has seen us providing extensive designs, advice and due diligence working on a variety of projects for our clients. Our services now extend geographically covering schemes in Nottingham, Derby, Leicester, Rugby, Macclesfield, Congleton, Bicester, Harrogate, Essex and as far south as Poole.
Clients are central to our work and building relationships gives us a greater understanding of the challenges they face. For this reason, we have dedicated time throughout this first year in building our relationships with lead local flood, local highways and water authorities and this continues to strengthen further, helping to secure confidence in the designs submitted and gain prompt technical approvals.
We are proud to have been involved with a number of land promotions and having had the opportunity to provide advice and due diligence helping to overcome utility constraints, abnormal ground conditions, securing drainage outfalls and resolving access issues. Richborough Estates schemes over at Willaston and Somerford in Cheshire were the first examples of these and we are looking forward to fortifying our relationship in the future.
Future development site and planning for Harrogate
Developments in Rugby, Wimboune – Poole (600 units), Harrogate (8 hectares), Melton Mowbray (20 hectares) and Macclesfield (180 units and 6 hectares of commercial) have benefited from our pre-planning support. Here we have worked on flood risk assessment, established foul and surface water drainage strategies, utilities supply and diversion, earthworks strategies and highway infrastructure.

On land acquisitions our feasibility and pre-acquisition studies have established opportunities and constraints that have led directly to the successful purchase of land; namely 130-unit residential site in Minster Lovell, Oxfordshire and 210-unit residential site in Essington, Staffordshire for Bovis Homes.
Equally our client base requiring detailed S104 and S38 highway and drainage infrastructure design continues to grow thanks to our economical design approach and prompt technical approvals. Examples of these schemes include Streethay (77 units) and Bicester (207 dwellings) for Bovis Homes; Somerford (200 units), Cheshire for Bellway Homes; Toton, Nottingham (282 units) and Alfreton, Derby (160 units) for Peveril. All designs successfully progressed to programme too.
Our structural design service is being utilised extensively by our clients too, particularly in the field of foundation design and review. Schemes include Kirby Cross, Essex, for Linden (250 units), Bovis Homes development in Wellington (188 units), Shropshire and Persimmon Homes in Shrewsbury (373 units) all have receiving positive client feedback and resulting in repeat work which is making our second year of business look just as positive.
I would like to conclude with a big thank you again to our clients for giving us the opportunity to work on exciting projects that allow us to apply our skills and continually expand our knowledge. Job satisfaction is something a lot of people crave above anything else when it comes to a career and it is something we deem essential here at PJS.
