We are delighted to launch our first Internship Programme and welcome two undergraduate students from Nottingham Trent University.
Managing Director Paul Smith comments “As a fellow graduate and alumni member, I believe it is essential for the growth of our industry to impart both knowledge and most importantly experience to the future generation of the civil engineering world.”
At PJS we believe the value in being part of a team on live project work adds more than just experience and will help both students to discover the real challenges through hands on experience of the job and client interactions.
Meet the interns
Jack Fisher and Louis Hunter both join us this month for a year placement, where they will be able to work alongside the consultancy and design teams. During this time both will have an opportunity to develop skills in areas like AutoCAD as well as expand their understanding of all PJS services from structural to geotechnical engineering. The programme at PJS aims to educate and benefit both students in their final years at University and hopefully will encourage their choice of a civil engineering career in the future.
Introducing Jack Fisher
Jack studied at West Herts College before going to University and loves to play football and watch basketball as well as studying engineering. Whilst on his placement year he will be continuing to play dodgeball and football for the university teams on the evenings and weekends. Being the social secretary of civil engineering at Nottingham Trent, he has hosted multiple events for the university; such as pub quizzes and bat and beers rounders days.
Jack describes how the thrill and exhilaration of a theme park ride sparked his curiosity in engineering design and is one of the main reasons he chose to study the subject at Nottingham Trent University. He looks forward to the challenges varied projects will bring through the nature of the work and meeting clients.
Jack comments “I have enjoyed my time at PJS so far. Each day brings a new challenge which I am learning, and growing as an engineer, from.”
Introducing Louis Hunter
Louis studied at Tudor Grange Academy Redditch before going to Nottingham Trent university and loves to Box and go to the gym as well as studying engineering. While he is on placement, he is planning to prepare for his final two years at university by trying to work in every department.
Louis comments, “Consultancy is an area of civil engineering which has always had my attention, due to there never being one right answer, but instead a variety of solutions that minimize cost or maximize aesthetics. Finding that middle ground and tendering to the clients demands is an aspect I enjoy being involved in.”
At PJS Consulting Engineers we are dedicated to the delivery of innovation and are committed to supporting the continued learning for all its employees. We are delighted to be offering our first Intern Programme and equally look forward to learning from both Louis and Jack too to ensure we offer an internship of value.
